Join us on the evening of Thursday, January 21 for the first Times+ online book club of the year. Our guest will be Kiley Reid, whose critically acclaimed debut novel, Such A Fun Age, was an immediate Sunday Times bestseller, was longlisted for the 2020 Booker prize and has already been hailed as a Book of the Year by The Times.

Kiley will be discussing Such a Fun Age and her journey to becoming one of the most talked about authors of 2020 along with answering your questions with writer, podcaster and speaker Pandora Sykes.

Such a Fun Age is the the story of black babysitter Emira who is apprehended at a supermarket for ‘kidnapping’ the white child she’s actually babysitting, which sets off an explosive chain of events. Her white employer Alix, a feminist blogger with the best of intentions, resolves to make things right.

Film and TV rights in Such a Fun Age have been acquired by Emmy Award-winning Lena Waithe’s Hillman Grad Productions and Sight Unseen Pictures.

The Sunday Times described it as ‘A subtle exploration of not just racial dynamics, but motherhood, work, emotional labour, female friendship and how to find your place in the world’. You can read Robbie Millen, literary editor The Times article about Such A Fun Age here

Kiley Reid earned her MFA from the Iowa Writers’ Workshop, where she was awarded the Truman Capote Fellowship and taught creative writing with a focus on race and class. Her short stories have been featured and are forthcoming in Ploughshares, December, New South and Lumina.

Pandora Sykes was previously an editor at The Sunday Times Style, she has written for publications including Vogue, The Guardian, Elle and Evening Standard and is the author of The Sunday Times best-selling essay collection, How Do We Know We're Doing It Right? As a podcaster, she was the co-founder and host of the acclaimed pop-culture show, The High Low, and is currently hosting a series about long-term missing people, in collaboration with Missing People charity, called The Missing. Pandora has appeared multiple times on BBC Radio 4 and 5, and is an experienced interviewer and panel host.
