At an exclusive online Times+ event which took place on Thursday, July 30 athletes Marilyn Okoro, Ellie Robinson and Max Whitlock were in conversation with Rebecca Myers. They discussed what it takes to be an elite athlete preparing for a rescheduled Tokyo 2020 and how they have stepped up to the challenges of this year.
Athletes around the world were shocked by the announcement in March that the Olympic and Paralympic Games would be postponed by a year due to the coronavirus pandemic. In the UK, as the country went into lockdown, athletes who had been in the midst of the most gruelling preparation of their careers, hoping to win gold for their country, were suddenly banned from gyms, pools, and training facilities for the first time in their lives and had to make do with whatever equipment they had at home.
Three athletes were in conversation with Rebecca Myers, sports reporter and feature writer for The Sunday Times, discussing how they coped with this extraordinary challenge, from training on gym equipment in their gardens, to fully shielding and learning how to be a full-time parent.
“Great event, very interesting and covered a variety of topics very well. Brilliant and honest discussions”

“Very intelligent, sensible athletes who were a pleasure to listen to”
