Don't worry if you didn't manage to join us at our cryptic crossword workshop. Tim Moorey, crossword setter for The Times and The Sunday Times, gave us his top three tips.
1 At the start of solving, scan clues from the first across downwards until you spot an easy way in, rather than spending lots of time on any one clue.
2 When temporarily stuck, reconsider carefully each word of a clue and try to find a double meaning and/or a different part of speech for a word in the clue. If still stuck, take a break and return some time later with a fresh mind.
3 If you do not understand why the clue answer is what it is, look up the Times daily crossword blog, Times for The Times, which has useful explanations for all Times cryptics.
